Carlos Cannon
At the age of 12, Carlos Cannon started playing the bass guitar in neighborhood bands and in high school. Inspired by the late Grover Washington Jr., Carlos Cannon eagerly picked up the alto saxophone and became the first chair player in the Paul Robeson high school jazz band in Chicago. Carlos Cannon went on to major in music performance at Illinois State University where he formed his own jazz band and took first place in the state jazz band competition. He later transferred to Roosevelt University and continued his musical studies. During his musical development, he became the Saxophonist extraordinaire, producer and songwriter that he is today. Now, it's that time for Carlos Cannon to flood the music industry. He credits Grover Washington, Jr., Gerald Albright, David Sandborn, and Kenny G. among his musical influences.
Carlos Cannon, a smooth jazz saxophonist and native Chicagoan, has been making his mark throughout the states and around the Chicago area for more than a decade as a professional soloist & contemporary jazz artist. His newly released CD, "Thinking of You," is one of the most requested smooth jazz CD in Chicago and is reaching the attention across the states. Thinking of You has a total of 11 songs mostly written by the artist himself. Some of the CD's hottest picks are; "Come Together" by the Beetles, "Tak'N It Smooth" and "You make me Smile." The "Thinking of You" CD was produced by Chicago's most renowned recording artist, bass-master Michael Mason and co-produced by Gerry Johnson. The smooth jazz CD was recorded at Hinge Studio in Chicago. Cannon released his debut CD, "Carlos Cannon-Chicago's Finest," in 2001and it topped #23 in Billboard magazine. Since the release of his debut CD, Carlos Cannon has sold more than 20,000 copies. The audience yearns to hear songs from his CD including: Heaven, In the Name of Love, and If you Want Me to Stay, (just to name a few.) This album is a classic that puts Carlos Cannon on the map. Cannon's live performances have proven to be powerful. He inherited the name "Breath Taker," because of his astonishing breath taking notes. He is known to reach out to his audience with a soulful spirit that captures the attention of all. Carlos has performed as the opening artist for many great entertainers; Angela Bofill, Fred Hammond, Pieces of a Dream, and Marion Meadows. In 1997, Cannon won first place in the Chicago Finlandia Vodka Jazz Talent Search. Internationally, he has earned acclaim in South Africa, Namibia and Germany. Carlos Cannon has been performing regularly at some of the hottest spots in Chicago; Navy Pier, Isaac Hayes Restaurant, Green Dolphin, The Taste of Chicago, The Cotton Club, etc, and is a regular at the BackRoom jazz club on Rush St. Artist
