Derrick Bounds

Derrick Bounds is a native of Chicago, Illinois. Derrick grew up taking private lessons in Classical, Jazz and Gospel Music.  He began studying piano at age eleven under Juanita Calermee of Maywood, IL; Dennis Smith of Chicago, IL; Alan Swain of Evanston, IL; and later Kevin Gainer of Waukegan, IL. He gained knowledge of various music styles. 

Although growing up without musical parents, Derrick grew up with music in the household with his father listening to Aretha Franklin and James Brown. In addition, he listened to Jazz (even though he couldn't understand it at the time) with his mom. 

Derrick has played with various musical groups and varying styles of music.  He has played with such notables as Otis Clay, Garland Green, Danny Boy, T.C. Carson as well as local artists D-Erania, Chris Zamora Group and hip hop group REALIFE.  Derrick also occasionally works with Chicago based Black Ensemble Theater.  Derrick has also written music for "Indie" films.

Today, Derrick continues to enjoy listening and playing music of various styles:  Classical, Brazilian Jazz,
Hip Hop, Blues, R&B, Gospel, and Rock, Reggae, etc....  You can say Derrick enjoys music of the world.
