JACOB H. CARRUTHERS FOR INNER CITY STUDIES
Kenya Henry
An aspiring songstress with a beautiful and humble spirit, Kenya Henry born in 1978, grew up the youngest of ten children in a suburb outside of Chicago, Il. She began singing at a very young age as a member of the junior choir in the church the family attended.
Singing lead vocals on several selections further sparked her interest in music perf ormance. As a teen, Kenya sang in the high school gospel choir and the well-known gospel group "Soul Children of Chicago" which performed all over the city and surrounding areas with television coverage. After high school, she sang background vocals and hooks on a local rap group's demo.
The angelic voice on the demo caught the attention of a member in Dave Hollister's camp, which landed her an audition with the R&B and Gospel recording artist. While singing background vocals for Hollister, Kenya toured with the artist for several years sharing the stage with legendary greats as Mary J. Blige, Patti LaBelle, K.C. & JoJo, Keith Sweat and Genuine.
Kenya' s music resume also includes singing background vocals for Syleena Johnson, and Keke Wyatt touring both locally and abroad. She has won several talent show contests including the televised "Gillespie Idol" in 2006.
Some of her motivations come from Divas like Kelly Price, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Yolanda Adams, Mary-Mary, Monica, Brandy, and Faith Evans.
Currently Kenya is in the studio working with Music Producer Reginald Wright, & Lawrence Welton on her debut CD with newly formed Record Label (eNsight Records).
