Malika (Brenda) Moore

Brenda (Malika) Moore, is forging a career as an independent choreographer.

From the South side of Chicago to Senegal, West Africa, Brenda (Malika) Moore has fashioned a unique brand of mystical, magical dance in motion and considers herself a dance ambassador.

An electrifying performer, incomparable choreographer and master instructor, Ms. Moore’s extensive dance career has spanned across cities, states and continents. Malika’s captivating carribean, mesmerizing modern, enticing African, and sizzling fire dances have hypnotized hundreds and thrilled thousands.

Hundreds of students have been stimulated by Ms Moore’s superior style at various venues including Lou Conte’s Dance Studio, Beverly Arts Center, Joel Hall Dance Center, Old Town School of Folk Music, Iowa State & Illinois State University.

Presently serving as Associate Artistic Director for Najwa Junior Corps, Choreographer for Najwa Dance Corps, Artistic Director/Choreographer for the Diamano (Roots) Dancers & Drummers of Chicago, Artist-In-Residence at Northeastern Illinois University’s Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies & an Alvin Ailey Ambassador for The Auditorium Theater of Roosevelt University. Ms. Moore has toured with the Free Street Theater, The Chicago Dance Medium, the Chicago Dance Laboratory, Julian Swain Inner City Dance Theater, Ruth Page Dance Series, Ed Wilkerson’s “Flat Earth World Jazz Tour”, Walt Disney’s “Lion King”, Count Basie’s “Salute to Red Saunders’ 50 Years in Show Business” at the Chicago Auditorium Theater and premiered with the Najwa Dance Corps in “A Salute to Black Dance in America”at the Brooklyn (NY) Academy of Music.

Other stellar accomplishments include being a featured dancer in Oprah Winfrey’s “Brewster Place” television sitcom, the “Blues Brothers” & “Cooley High” films. Also, received artists grants through the Illinois Arts Council, Chicago Artist Initiative and Neighborhood Arts Projects, sponsored by the City of Chicago’s Office of Cultural Affairs.
